How to Register
Pick up an application at any of the following places: Supervisor of Elections office, libraries, colleges, government agencies, division of drivers licenses.
Closed Primaries
Florida has closed primaries. In a closed primary election, voters are limited to choosing candidates of their own party. Democrats vote for Democrats, Republicans vote for Republicans and voters registered with other parties may vote only on issues and non-partisan candidates, such as judges, school board and referenda questions. The only exception is if all candidates for an office have the same party affiliation and the winner will have no opposition in the General Election, all qualified voters, regardless of party affiliation, may vote in the primary Election for that office. This is called a Universal Primary. Regardless of party affiliation, a voter may vote for any candidate in a General Election.
Election Day
-Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
-Double-check your precinct number and location
-Bring your ID-Photo ID with signature
-You may bring your marked sample ballot with you to assist you in making your selections

- Double-check your precinct number and location

Alachua County
Gainesville is a city in Alachua County, Florida. It is the county seat and the largest city in Alachua County. The city has a total of 49.1 square miles with a population of 100,681.The area is dominated by the presence of the University of Florida, the nation’s third largest university. The University of Florida is a major financial boost to the community, and hundred of thousands of dollars in additional revenues are created by the athletic events that occur at UF, including SEC football games. In all the University of Florida contributes nearly 6 billion annually to Florida’s economy and is responsible for nearly 75,000 jobs. Santa Fe College is also located in Gainesville. Gainesville’s climate is defined as humid subtropical. Due to its inland location, Gainesville experiences wide temperature fluctuation for Florida. During the summer season, the city’s climate is the same as the rest of the state, with frequent downpours and high humidity. In Gainesville, cold temperatures are almost always accompanied by clear skies and high pressure systems: snow is therefore rare.
